Matt’s interest in photography started when he was in the 6th grade. The school offered classes in black and white processing and printing, and he took one – he was hooked. Matt was a photographer for the yearbook throughout high school where he was introduced to sports photography. Working aside the local papers covering prep sports, Matt discovered that there was a way to get paid for doing what he was naturally drawn to. While attending college in Southern California, Matt was picking up spot news assignments for the local paper.

That opportunity grew into another where he ended up working for the team photographer to the local NFL team when they played in Anaheim. When the team moved away, Matt remained with the studio as a portrait photographer, working on a staff with some very talented peers. In 1998, after 13 years with the same studio, it was time to move on. Matt started a company that catered to his love of sports and capturing images that tell a story. Matt quickly realized that being his own boss had some advantages, he no longer had to keep his hands in the processing chemicals. He made the switch to digital in 1999. It was a whole new world.

By this time, Matt had worked with NFL, NHL, and MLB players. He knew what to expect when dealing with professional athletes. In early 2004, Matt was asked to cover a PBR event for a friend. Matt was game since it was a sport, and it certainly was something new. It didn’t take long to find out how different this sport was. To Matt, this sport was one filled with athletes that appreciated their fans, bone crushing action, and tradition, but most important – these athletes didn’t do it for the money, they did it for the love of the sport. In 2005, Matt was invited by the PBR to be on the photo staff for the World Finals. He has covered each Finals since along with regular coverage of the Built Ford Tough tour throughout the seasons.

Born and raised near the beach in Southern California, Matt resides a little further inland with his wife and three young boys in Orange County, CA. In his free time, Matt (with an amazing amount of help from his wife) coaches his kids soccer teams. He also enjoys a round of golf with friends from time to time.
